Exploring Extrinsic and Intrinsic Work Values of British Ethnic Minorities: The Roles of Demographic Background, Job Characteristics and Immigrant Generation

Despite the increasingly diverse ethnic composition of British labor force, there is no research investigating whether minorities have different work values from White demographic (White British). Using nationally representative data (2012–2013), this article fills gap by comparing extrinsic and intrinsic between five minorities, while distinguishing first second generations. The results show that both first- second- generation stronger than British, but differences are more pronounced for Compared to first-generation weaker values, generations values. Differences in partly explained age, education income, largely job autonomy. These hold significant implications understanding career choices market outcomes.
